Day 1 Arrival at Kili Airport - Moshi Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport. After you have received your visa and collected your luggage, you will be met by a driver from the agency. You will drive for about an hour to Moshi, to a beautifully situated lodge with a view of Africa's highest mountain. You will move into your rooms and the rest of the day is at your leisure. In the late afternoon there will be a briefing on the upcoming Kilimanjaro climb with your mountain guide. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Day 2 Moshi - Machame Hut 3000 m B/BL/AToday your Kilimanjaro climb begins. Luggage that you do not need will be stored in the lodge. You drive for about 60 minutes, past banana and coffee plantations, to the Machame Gate at about 1800 m. Here you register and meet your crew, who will accompany you for the next 7 days. Today's beautiful route leads through dense mountain rainforest and heather to the Machame Hut. Overnight in a tent.
Day 3 Machame Hut - Shira Hut 3840 m B/BL/AYou leave the lowlands of the mountain rainforest and hike up a relatively steep ridge and then along it to your lunch break spot. From here, the peaks of Kibo and Shira are clearly visible. Then you continue to climb to the Shira Plateau, where we will sleep today. In the afternoon, you climb again to achieve better acclimatization. Towards the evening, the weather usually clears up, so that you can experience a wonderful sunset on Kilimanjaro, with Mt. Meru in the background. Overnight in a tent.
Day 4 Shira Hut - Barranco Hut 3970 m B/BL/AToday you hike through a stone desert, approx. 4 - 5 hours, to the Lava Tower at approx. 4590 m. If the weather is good, there is the option for those who feel well to climb it (climbing at 2 degrees). After lunch, behind a rock edge, you descend for approx. 2 hours to the Barranco Hut, which is located next to a beautiful Senecia forest. From here you have a magnificent view of the mighty glaciated Kibo rim and the Breach Wall. Overnight in tents, walking time approx. 6 - 7 hours.
Day 5 Barranco Hut - Karanga Hut 4050 m B/BL/AAfter a delicious breakfast, we head uphill over the steep Barranco wall (250 m high - no climbing). Once at the top, you can enjoy the wonderful panorama and the breathtaking view of the southern flank of Kilimanjaro. After a descent and ascent, we head down into the deeply cut Karanga Valley (last water point on the way to the summit). Short but tough climb to Karanga Camp at 4050 m. Overnight in tents. Walking time approx. 3 - 4 hours.
Day 6 Karanga Hut - Barafu Hut 4650 m B/BL/AToday you climb steadily uphill through a spectacular stone desert to the Barafu Hut camp at 4650 m. On the way you have a fantastic view of Kibo. Lunch, rest and briefing for the summit day. Overnight in tents, walking time approx. 3 - 4 hours.
Day 7 Barafu Hut – Uhuru Peak 5895 m – Mweka Hut 3100 m M/A. At around 11 p.m. the short night is over and you prepare yourself for the summit climb. There are a few biscuits and hot tea and then the summit climb starts at around midnight. The path zigzags and over rubble through the night to Stella Point at around 5700 m. Shortly before Stella Point you experience a fantastic sunrise high above the clouds and with Mawenzi in the foreground. Here at Stella Point you have to gather all your strength once again and then continue for around 45 minutes past the fantastic glacier fields to Uhuru Peak at 5895 m. You've done it! The highest point in Africa, a moving moment. Summit photo with a fascinating view of Mt. Meru, Mawenzi, the crater with Ash Pit and the last large glaciers in Africa. Then the descent back to Barafu Hut begins. Here you can rest briefly and have a small lunch. Then the descent continues to Mweka Hut at around 3100 m. On the way the landscape changes again and it becomes noticeably warmer. The camp is in the middle of a beautiful heather forest. Overnight in a tent, walking time around 10 - 14 hours.
Day 8 Mweka Hut - Moshi B/L/A You start relatively early today for the Mweka Gate at around 1700 m. The descent takes around 3 hours and leads through the magical mountain rainforest again. Shortly before the Mweka Gate, if you time it well, you can see colobus monkeys or blue monkeys. At the gate, you check out of the national park and then, together with the accompanying team, you drive to Moshi to our agency's office. At a small party, you receive your well-earned summit certificate, the tip is given to the mountain team and we toast the summit success with a drink or two. Then transfer back to the lodge.
