Tag 1     Arusha National Park     BL/A

Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha in the morning and will then drive you to Arusha National Park, which is located right at the foot of Mt. Meru, Tanzania's second highest mountain. This park was formerly known as Momella, which belonged to the famous Trappe family. ZDF once showed a two-part series about the "white huntress", Mrs. Margarete Trappe, entitled: "Momella - a farm in Africa". This park has also served as the backdrop for several feature films, the most famous of which was "HATARI", starring John Wayne and Hardy Krüger. Today you will go on a 2-3 hour hike in the park with an armed ranger. You might get quite close to some animals, but they are very peaceful as they are used to hikers. After the hike you will then drive up part of the slopes of Meru through beautiful jungle. From some of the vantage points you would have a great view of Kilimanjaro, if the mountain is not hidden in the clouds. Then you continue with game drives to the Momella Lakes and the Ngurdoto Crater. With a bit of luck you can see the very pretty black and white colobus monkeys here. After further game drives you leave the park and drive to the Meru View Lodge, which is only a few hundred meters outside the park. On a cloud-free day you can see the two highest mountains in Tanzania, Meru and Kilimanjaro. Day 2 Tarangire National Park B/BL/D

Today the safari continues with a trip to Tarangire National Park, the park in northern Tanzania with the largest elephant population. The many baobab trees here are very impressive. Your driver will use as many paths as possible to show you as much of this fairly large park as possible. With a bit of luck you can see the three big cats, lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as many other animals such as buffalo, giraffes, various antelope species, zebras, various monkey species and many bird species. In the late afternoon you leave the park and drive to the town of Mto wa Mbu at the foot of the East African Rift. If you still have some time, you could buy some delicious red bananas, for example. After Mto wa Mbu you drive up the steep slopes of the East African Rift to the upper land. From here you will enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Manyara National Park directly below, as well as the Maasai land in the distance. After a stop at the viewing point, the journey continues up into the Ngorongoro highlands and towards Karatu. Shortly before that, however, you turn right and drive to the Marera Valley Lodge, which is located about 2 kilometers from the edge of the Ngorongoro forest.

Tag 3 Ngorongoro Crater F/BL/A

After breakfast, the journey continues to Karatu and from there to the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. You then drive through beautiful jungle up to the crater rim. As this is at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, there can sometimes be fog. But if not, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire crater, which is about 20 kilometers in diameter and is about 400 to 600 meters further down. You then circle around about a quarter of the crater before heading down to the crater floor. Here you will see animals scattered across much of the crater floor. With a bit of luck, you might see some of the last rhinos in Tanzania, as well as large bull elephants with large tusks. In the afternoon, just before the permitted time on the crater floor has expired, you leave the crater and the crater conservation area and drive back to the Marera Valley Lodge near Karatu.

Tag 4     Lake Manyara National Park     F/BL

You drive back to the upper edge of the East African Rift and then down to the foot of the East African Rift. From here you go straight to Lake Manyara National Park, which is bordered on the right by the slopes of the East African Rift and on the left by Lake Manyara. Sometimes this shallow lake dries up almost completely. Lake Manyara National Park has beautiful, varied flora and interesting wildlife. If you're lucky, you might even see lions in the trees. As in Tarangire NP, there are many different species of birds here too. In the late afternoon you leave Manyara and then drive back to Arusha or Moshi to your accommodation.
