This is what your trip could look like - self-drive! (Meals: B = breakfast, L = lunch, D = dinner; BL = lunch box) Travel to Tanzania Travel to the airport near you and fly to Tanzania to Kilimanjaro Airport. We would be happy to organize your flights from/to Germany to Tanzania (e.g. Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, KLM).

Day 1 Arrival at Kili Airport - Moshi Arrival early in the morning at Kilimanjaro Airport. After you have received your visa and collected your luggage, you will be met by a driver from the agency. You will drive for about an hour to Moshi, to a beautifully situated lodge/hotel with a view of Africa's highest mountain, and rest from the strenuous journey. In the late afternoon there will be a briefing on the upcoming Kilimanjaro climb with your mountain guide. Overnight stay in a lodge or hotel.

Day 2 Start of the Kilimanjaro climb - Umbwe Gate - Umbwe Camp (2940 m) B/BL/AToday your Kilimanjaro climb begins. You can safely store any luggage you don't need in the hotel/lodge. Drive to the Umbwe National Park Gate at 2100 m. The journey takes you past various villages with large coffee and banana plantations. You register for the tour at the gate and here you meet your support team for the next few days. The first day takes you through tropical rainforest at the foot of Kilimanjaro. With a bit of luck you will see all kinds of exotic birds, monkeys and other animals. You walk along the Lonzo River and Umbwe River, see huge trees and the path is easy to follow. The first campsite is in the forest, in the stepped terrain. Walking time: approx. 4-6 hours

Day 3 Umbwe Camp - Barranco Camp (3970 m) B/BL/AShortly after you leave Umbwe Cave you enter the lowlands of the mountain rainforest. The path continues over a narrow, spectacular mountain ridge, with a great view of Kilimanjaro. You come to a moorland landscape with giant senecios and lobelias. You will soon arrive at Barranco Camp. A really beautiful place, with impressive views. Walking time: 5-7 hours

Day 4 Barranco Camp - Lava Tower - Moir Hut (4200 m) B/BL/AYou leave the seneciosa and lobelias behind you and a barren path leads along a stony main path up to the Lava Tower (4655 m). Up here you can already clearly feel the great altitude. The barren landscape is characterized by many lava boulders. You then follow the route westwards and reach a desert-like plateau between the Lent Hills. From here there is a wide panoramic view in all directions. The day's destination is the Moir Hut camp (4200 m), where the northern circuit begins. Only a few hikers come to this remote corner of Kilimanjaro. Walking time: approx. 5-7 hours

Day 5 Moir Hut – Buffalo Camp (4150 m) B/BL/AYou climb out of the Moir Valley and make a short detour to the summit of “Little Lent Hill” (4380 m). Magnificent views of the Amboseli Basin and the northern ice fields of Kibo. Now begins the section of the “Northern Circuit Trail”, the northern circular route around the north side of the Kibo massif. The path leads eastwards through an area of rock slabs to Buffalo Camp (4150 m). The view of the northern glaciers of Kibo is unique. Very few hikers come here along the “Kenyan/Tanzanian border” on Kilimanjaro. From the camp you have a fantastic view of the vast expanse of the Kenyan plain. Walking time: approx. 5-7 hours

Day 6 Buffalo Ridge – Pofu – Third Cave Camp (3900 m) B/BL/AFrom Buffalo Camp you climb up to the Buffalo Ridge. Then you go down the other side and you reach Pofu Camp. There is a small spring nearby. The path now leads further eastwards through sparser vegetation. You finally reach the camp at the Third Cave (3900 m). This is below the Kibo saddle. Walking time: approx. 5-7 hours

Day 7 Kibo Saddle - School Hut Camp (4700 m) B/BL/AEt is a steady climb up to the Kibo Saddle, a lunar landscape between Kibo and Mawenzi. From here you continue up and reach the campsite at the School Hut (4700 m). The rest of the afternoon is spent preparing for the climb.Walking time: approx. 4-6 hours

Day 8 Uhuru Peak - Millennium Camp (3820 m) BL (M)/AToday is the day! You will be woken up before midnight and set off shortly afterwards to reach Gilman's Point at sunrise if possible. In the beam of the headlamp, steep serpentines lead upwards over loose volcanic rubble. At a slow but steady pace, you hike up to the crater rim. Now it's time to mobilize all your reserves for the last short section to Uhuru Peak. You've made it and a dream view of Tanzania and Africa awaits you. A moving moment. After the climb, you go via Stella Point and Barafu Hut, down to the Millennium Camp. Walking time: approx. 11-15 hours

Day 9 Millennium Camp - Moshi B/L/ARet relatively early today you start for the Mweka Gate at around 1700 m. The descent leads first through very rocky terrain and later again through the fairytale mountain rainforest. At the gate you sign out of the national park and then the journey continues, together with the accompanying team, to Moshi, to our agency's office. At a small party you receive your well-earned summit certificates, the tip is given to the mountain team and you toast your summit success with a drink or two. Then transfer back to the lodge. Walking time: approx. 5-6 hours
