This is what your trip could look like - self-drive! (Meals: B = breakfast, L = lunch, D = dinner; BL = lunch box) Day 1 Kilimanjaro Airport - Moshi Individual arrival in Tanzania! Reception by our agency at Kilimanjaro Airport and approximately one-hour transfer from the airport to Moshi. After arrival at the hotel, there is a preparatory meeting for the trekking tour with the mountain guide. Overnight stay in hotel/lodge
Day 2 Moshi – Machame Camp (3000 m) B/BL/ADAfter breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel/lodge. You will travel with the mountain guide to the national park entrance from Machame Gate, where your Kilimanjaro trekking tour starts. The luggage will be distributed among the porters and you will be registered at the gate. Today's stage is 9 km from Machame Gate (1800 m) to Machame Camp. The trail begins on a disused forest road that is nice and wide and pleasant to walk on. This ends after about an hour and the actual trail begins, which leads into the dense tropical mountain rainforest. The trees and branches are covered in dark green moss cushions and long lichens hang down from them, which in some places looks very fairytale-like. After about half of the day's stage it becomes more strenuous and the gradient greater. It becomes wetter and more slippery, and trees and roots block the path from time to time. The mountain rainforest reaches up to about 2700 m. In the last section, the forest thins out and the path leads further into the heath and moorland zone. Walking time: about 6 to 7 hours; overnight stay: tent
Day 3 Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3880 m) B/BL/AToday you will overcome another 800 meters in altitude (approx. 10 km) and climb to Shira Camp. First a short descent, then a steep ascent, followed by a good two-hour walk at a relatively constant altitude through moorland. After another ascent, you will reach the Shira campsite on flat paths. Shira Camp is one of the most fantastic camps on Kilimanjaro. The view of Shira and Kibo in the changing light of the moving sun will remain unforgettable. Walking time: approx. 5 to 7 hours; overnight: tent
Day 4 Shira Camp – Barranco Camp (3965 m) B/BL/AWe follow the principle of “walk high – sleep low” and hike to heights of around 4600 m (Lava Tower), but spend the night at around 4000 m. You hike part of the way below the mighty Kibo peak on its south side. The route runs at a roughly constant height, which is very beneficial for the body’s adaptation to the altitude. The landscape becomes more barren and numerous boulders characterize the surroundings. The path leads past fascinating giant lobelias and man-sized senecios. From Barranco Camp, in the dark and under a cloudless sky, you can see the lights of Moshi, 60 km away and around 3200 m lower. Walking time: 6 to 8 hours; Overnight: tent
Day 5 Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (3950 m) B/BL/AToday we climb the Barranco rock wall, also known as the "Breakfast Wall", to the plateau with a magnificent view of the Kibo Crater. The path continues eastwards to Karanga Camp. The afternoon is for relaxation. Walking time: approx. 4 - 5 hours; overnight: tent
Day 6 Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4600 m) B/BL/AFrom here on, the path continues uphill. The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, but you are rewarded with magnificent views of Mt. Meru, Mawenzi and Kibo. The path continues steadily uphill, through an increasingly grey and rocky landscape. The last overnight stay at high altitude is in Barafu Camp. Here there is another short briefing and an early dinner. Walking time: approx. 3 - 4 hours; overnight: tent
Day 7 Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5895 m) – Mweka Camp (3100 m) M/A Shortly after midnight, the most strenuous and at the same time most fascinating day at Kibo begins. The path leads, almost always "zig-zagging", up to Stella Point (approx. 5745 m) on the crater rim. Uhuru Peak "Freedom Peak" is only about 60 minutes away from here. At the highest point in Africa, you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view. The descent takes place via the Mweka route to Mweka Camp, with a longer break at Barafu Camp. Walking time: approx. 13 to 16 hours; overnight: tent
Day 8 Mweka Camp – Moshi B/L/ADurther descent through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate. Transfer to Moshi and farewell to the accompanying team or a small farewell party in the agency office. Here you will receive your well-earned summit certificates and give your team the well-earned tip. Then return to the hotel/lodge. Walking time: approx. 4 to 5 hours; overnight: hotel/lodge
Day 9 Return to Germany or extension Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport and return flight to Germany. Arrival in the evening and end of an eventful holiday in Tanzania. End of service!
